Frequently Asked Questions
After successful completion, you will be a Bloom College Career Change Course Graduate Florist. You will be prepared to either work within a floristry business or commence your own business.
No the Career Change Course is not government certified, we are a private College and are not a nationally recognised training provider. Which means we are not funded by the government, nor do we follow the national training package.
Being a fully funded private College allows us the flexibility to include the most up-to-date industry skills and knowledge.
The floristry industry is not regulated. Therefore, anyone wanting to start a career or business in floristry does not require any specific qualifications. We have designed the career change course with specific skills and knowledge to enable graduates to meet industry demands today and into the future. Our delivery of content and course design utilises our extensive knowledge as Florists and floristry business owners, as well as our previous experience teaching floristry at TAFE institutions.
To ensure we can deliver this course to you regardless of your location, we have removed a large cost of the course content by not supplying you with the flowers required to create each design that is taught. The added benefits of not supplying and charging you the cost of the flowers allows you to go at your own pace, meaning you can decide to create each design when you choose. On top of that, you get to choose a variety of colours of flowers to your own liking and taste. We highly recommend buying what’s in season within your region. You are better able to achieve this by sourcing your own materials. Knowing how and what to buy and who to buy from are all part of the early course content.
Meet Yvette

For Yvette Timmins, flowers are more than just a profession – they are a family legacy. With a Grandmother, Great Aunt, and Great-Grandmother who were all florists, it would be easy to say that creativity is in her blood. However, Yvette believes that the art of floristry isn’t a special skill reserved for the chosen few; it is an innate ability available to anyone willing to silence their inner critic and connect with nature.
With over 30 years in the industry, Yvette has truly “done it all.” She has climbed every rung of the ladder, moving from a Casual Assistant to Senior Florist, Shop Manager, and Shop Owner, eventually becoming a Floristry Teacher and the Principal of Bloom College, which she founded in 2013. Her leadership extends to the national stage, where she served as a founding director and board member of Flower Industry Australia.
Beyond the business of blooms, Yvette is a champion for the mental health benefits of creativity. She has witnessed firsthand how working with nature decreases anxiety and nurtures the soul. This passion led her to co-found the charity Floral Acts of Kindness and to write her recently published book, Feed Your Soul with Flowers.
Today, through her online membership and app, Yvette is dedicated to ensuring that geography and physical ability are no longer barriers to learning. She is here to help you grow your business and feed your soul, one stem at a time.
“I believe flowers are essential to our self-fulfilment. Their energy is food for the soul. My mission is simple: to share the transformative power of arranging flowers with those ready to let their creativity flow.” – Yvette Timmins, Bloom College Founder & Director
