More pink and blue (and watch for Jo Paoletti’s book on mother-of-the-bride dresses)

Last Wednesday we posted about Jo Paoletti’s work and her recently published book Pink and Blue: Telling the Girls from the Boys in America. Our research about the great pink-blue issue lead us to believe that the 1940s was when the current pink-blue divide became well established.

Jo contacted us to let us know that she doesn’t conclude that the colour meanings as we have them began in the 1940s; their story is more complex. She sent us a condensed version of a chapter in Pink and Blue: Telling the Girls from the Boys in America in which she addresses the topic.

Thanks to Jo we can all read the condensed book chapter in her blog and listen to a radio interview she did on the pink-blue topic on ABC Radio National’s Life Matters in March this year all. We are going to enjoy exploring all the other great blogs and links she has and learning about the complex and ever changing relationships between fashion, culture and gender.

For all you wedding florists out there, one of Jo’s forthcoming publications focusses on mother-of-the-bride dresses. Jo is definitely one to follow.
